Amazon Software Development Manager, AWS Zero Trust Services Development in Arlington, Virginia

Amazon Web Services (Route 53) is offering a Software Development Manager position in-person in Arlington, VA / Herndon VA USA.

In this role, you will be leading a team working on development of AWS services for customers to secure their end-users and devices for their access to Internet domains, web-pages and cloud-hosted applications. These services enable protection for customer devices from Internet based threats by steering their traffic to AWS services that integrate security, privacy and compliance-enabled components and features.

We are looking for a proven and motivated Engineering leader to take our security services software development team to the next level. As a leader, you will be responsible for significantly improving the service, making tough prioritization decisions, iterating and innovating, and thinking through distributed systems problems.

You need to be technically deep, be able to communicate clearly, and have the ability to build a strong team that delivers results. The Amazon Web Services business requires creative engineering and a strong customer focus, and you will work with your team and senior leadership to develop and launch high quality services. You will manage and lead a team of engineers to influence our overall strategy and define the team’s roadmap. You will also help drive the system architecture, spearhead best practices that enable a quality product, and help coach and develop team members. A successful candidate will have an established background in managing and delivering software projects, great communication skills, and a motivation to achieve results in a fast paced environment.

Key job responsibilities

  • Direct management of the software engineering team

  • Lead the architecture and design, development, deployment and operations for the service

  • Strategic planning and execution, effectively tracking the progress and management of changing priorities

  • Be customer-focused and drive the team to build and deliver solutions that improves customer experience

  • Work closely with leadership and stakeholders to review business plans, progress and outcomes

  • Work with customers, listening to their requirements and pain-points and drive solutions to address them

  • Be cost conscious, drive efficiency improvements

As a trusted leader you will:

  • Work with product managers to refine customer requirements

  • Bring innovative ideas to the table every day, in order to find better ways of accomplishing our customer objectives

  • Set clear and measurable goals for the team and team members

  • Mentor and promote your team members

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of engineering team management experience

  • 10+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience

  • 5+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $148,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
