The Manager, Application Engineer will lead a team of employees who are responsible for ensuring customer satisfaction on all levels of business by providing on-site and phone troubleshooting, repair, equipment modifications, installation, technical training and sales support of various Generac Clean Energy products. This position is responsible for providing mission critical equipment support, service, and training.

Essential Duties:

50% Supervision

  • Selects, coaches and develops staff. Sets clear expectations to inspire and motivate the team. Manages performance - recognizing achievement, providing feedback and administering progressive discipline when necessary.

  • Tracks and creates reports on specific key performance indicators.

  • Manages the service activities of Field Application Engineers.

  • Continuously assess the needs of your team and the region you oversee to develop and maintain efficient field support operations. Identify opportunities for improvement and implement strategies to enhance support services within your region.

50% Individual Contributor

  • Oversee the management of major dealer and service dealer accounts to ensure fleet health and customer satisfaction.

  • Work with the Generac Clean Energy Solutions product engineering team to identify, diagnose, and provide reliable solutions for escalated technical and installation issues to assure complete customer satisfaction.

  • Support the design and development of new product introductions, and product improvements to ensure Generac Clean Energy is creating products that meet the needs of our customers.

  • Provide technical guidance to both internal and external sales and service associates.

  • Manage the handling of escalated technical support and service requests from various departments.

  • Contribute in the development and maintenance of technical sales tools, ensuring they align with the company’s objectives.

  • Provide technical guidance for the development of CES training materials, manuals, and other new or updated technical content before published.

  • Supervise the delivery of installation and onsite service training to dealers, ensuring consistency and effectiveness.

  • Ensure meticulous record-keeping of service activities within your team.

  • Provide valuable technical input and design suggestions to engineering teams during new product initiation and existing product improvement initiatives.

  • Gather and share feedback from the field with Sales, Marketing, Engineering, Manufacturing, and technical support, especially concerning competitor products.

  • Identify regulatory barriers to customer success and mobilize internal resources, including code specialists, product managers, and product engineers.

  • Coordinate field visits to customer sites with regional sales managers, guaranteeing comprehensive support for all customers within your team's territories.

  • Represent the company at national and regional industry trade shows, demonstrating the team's expertise and commitment.

  • Ensure regular submission of written reports to upper management, covering your team's accounts visited, service schools provided, product issues and concerns, potential sales opportunities, and competitor information.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or solar related field

  • Electrical contractor’s license strongly preferred

  • 3 years of experience in solar and storage applications, Applications Engineering, field technical services, or related roles

  • 1 year experience leading or mentoring a team of individuals or long-term projects

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Solar Photovoltaics

  • Sound knowledge of Residential Energy Storage Systems

  • Experience with residential electrical systems

  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and standards relevant to residential ESS

  • Experienced in Power Electronics

  • Proficiency with Salesforce and Microsoft Office

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to build rapport and establish/keep working relationships with customers, peers, and managers

Physical demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting; close vision and ability to adjust focus. Up to 15% Travel.

Compensation:

Generac is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this role based in Pacific Palisades, California is $120,000-150,000 USD. This compensation will ultimately be in line with the location in which the position is filled. Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as a candidate’s relevant work experience, skills, certifications, and geographic location.
