JOB SUMMARY

Supervises employees responsible for guarding site premises of a single high profile asset or portfolio of commercial properties for one owner. On a routine basis, monitors security team performance to ensure security requirements are met. Sets policy for access control of the building. May be required to set parking regulations and manage reporting of fire and safety hazards. Reports atypical situations to senior level management. May oversee the use of electronic surveillance equipment. May be responsible for a staff of over 15 employees or have other managers reporting into them.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Manages security staff, assigns and monitors work assignments, and ensures training in life safety, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, first aid, central control panel, and local and national regulations are provided. Also, ensures security certifications maintained.

Oversees the control of access to buildings and monitors activities of visitors. Also, oversees the monitoring of building operations and tours of properties.

Responsible for hiring security staff personnel. Manages security scheduling and payroll functions. Maintains employee scheduling and training records.

Maintains on-going communications with Property Manager, Building Operations Manager, and other building services related staff regarding site operations.

Maintains proficiency with building's life safety system and central security panel and trains security staff and Shift Leader with respect to life safety systems and emergency response procedures.

Provides leadership for emergency response at the property or site.

Develops site-specific policies and procedures for the security and life safety manual.

Maintains on-going communications with Property Manager, Building Operations Manager, and other building services related staff regarding site operations.

Ensures security staff is kept informed of site-specific activities and developments. Determines, and arranges for, appropriate training.

Reviews reports and monitors performance. Reviews performance reviews of staff. Assists in performance/behavior related meetings regarding security staff.

Communicates with client representative about any security issues that arise.

Works with human resources manager in handling issues related to security personnel. Acts as consultant to human resources on other security related issues.

Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides formal supervision to individual employees within single functional or operational area. Approves subordinate's recommendations for staff recruitment, selection, promotion, advancement, corrective action and termination. Effectively recommends same for direct reports to next level management for review and approval. Plans and monitors appropriate staffing levels and utilization of labor, including overtime. Prepares and delivers performance appraisal for staff. Mentors and coaches team members to further develop competencies. Leads by example and models behaviors that are consistent with the company's values.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma or GED equivalent. 4-6 years prior security or law enforcement related experience with proven leadership ability. Prior experience as shift leader, supervisor and security manager preferred.

CERTIFICATES and/or LICENSES

Meets local or national security staff certification requirements

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret the most complex business documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive issues. Ability to write reports, manuals, speeches and articles using distinctive style. Ability to make effective and persuasive presentations on complex topics to employees, clients, top management and/or public groups. Ability to motivate and negotiate effectively with key employees, top management, and client groups to take desired action.

FINANCIAL KNOWLEDGE

Requires in-depth knowledge of financial terms and principles. Ability to calculate complex figures. Ability to forecast and prepare budgets. Conducts financial/business analysis including the preparation of reports.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve advanced problems and deal with a variety of options in complex situations. Requires expert level analytical and quantitative skills with proven experience in developing strategic solutions for a growing matrix-based multi-industry sales environment. Draws upon the analysis of others and makes recommendations that have a direct impact on the company.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have an advanced knowledge of Word Processing software; Excel spreadsheet software and Internet software. Ability to walk/stand 8 hours per day, operate an extinguisher, lift 50 pounds, and effectively transport and adult in an evacuation chair or similar transportation equipment.
