Ford Motor Company Cell Test Engineer in Dearborn, Michigan

Electric Vehicle Digital Design (EVDD) is responsible for developing the key technologies and capabilities – such as EV platforms, batteries, e-motors, inverters, charging and recycling – to create ground-up breakthrough electric vehicles. By joining the best software, engineering, design and UX talent, you will be a part of creating new technologies and concepts that can be applied across the Ford enterprise. What you’ll be able to do:

  • Define and document test requirements for cell characterization, abuse and other mechanical tests

  • Own cell-level test plans to characterize cell properties needed for setting cell specifications and control algorithms.

  • Analyze test results to assess quality of data collected to optimize performance and reliability

  • Work with data engineers to create smooth data pipeline for requirement owners on a global scale

  • Coordinate the development of code to execute on test hardware and test samples with a partner test engineer or technician

The minimum requirements we seek:

  • Understanding of lithium-ion cell chemistry and electrochemistry fundamentals

  • Knowledge of electrical test equipment used in battery cell testing

  • Ability to learn new concepts and methods, propose design of experiments, and execute independently.

  • Some experience with battery test equipment scripting (AVL Lynx)

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience with test planning and management using tools like JAMA and JIRA

  • An eagerness to work cross-functionally in a dynamic environment where you are part of a high performing team

  • A system approach to design and testing with the desire and curiosity to strive for exceptional delivery execution and continuous improvement
