Overview

The Take Off Estimator I is responsible for:

  • Reviewing drawings for pipe, valves, and fittings takeoff using estimating software tools.

  • Quantifying and summarizing scheduled and miscellaneous equipment items.

Responsibilities

Specific Responsibilities of Estimator

  • Responsible for preparing and/or coordinating the preparation of full estimates on large MEP commercial construction projects as required by client's documents and providing complete conceptual and total bid price.

  • Read specifications to identify piping material types/joining methods, specific job requirements, and deviations from Bernhard standard practices.

  • Reviewing and evaluating requests for proposals.

  • Reviewing construction documents and understanding the scope of work to bid.

  • Executing take-offs of construction documents.

  • Reviewing material takeoff for completeness and accuracy.

  • Entering take-offs into database.

  • Obtaining pricing for specialty materials.

  • Executing material/labor evaluations for specialty materials.

  • Soliciting bids from subcontractors and vendors.

  • Informing immediate supervisor of any observed inaccuracies or omissions in quoted item or database.

  • Developing and maintaining resource information on products, vendors, subcontractors, government requirements, etc.

  • Attending departmental meetings.

This position is Full-Time, Non-Exempt, and reports to the Director of Estimating.

Qualifications

Education, Experience, and Qualifications

  • 0 to 3 years of related experience.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as drawings, specifications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Experience with estimating techniques and cost control.

  • Ability to perform detailed labor and material take-offs.

  • Teamwork.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Bluebeam.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Detail-oriented and willing to tackle various ongoing projects in a fast-paced environment.

  • Versed in the industry and the Company's competitors.

  • Ability to multitask and perform duties outside of the scope of work when necessary.

Preferred Education, Experience, and Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Estimation Viewpoint and/or Trimble Autobid software.

Travel Requirements

  • 10-15% of time will be spent traveling to job site/office location.

Physical/Work Environment Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Pay Range

USD $20.91 - USD $27.93 /Hr.
