What we’re looking for…

The EHSS Manager is responsible for the strategic leadership, development, and application of EHSS programs and processes at one or more of Oatey’s manufacturing or distribution site operations. This includes aligning to guidelines, training, corrective actions, and continuous improvement to fulfill Oatey’s overall company EHSS requirements and governmental standards. This position is responsible for identifying and leading EHSS activities that highlight risk while developing and implementing programs and procedures to meet requirements and mitigate/eliminate risks.

The EHSS Manager will report directly to the Site Leader based on location along with partnership and collaboration with the Corporate Director, EHSS.

Expectations & Accountabilities …

  • The EHSS Manager is responsible for upholding a positive safety culture at their site location.

  • Lead and advise operations within the specialty of EHSS by providing ongoing strategic plans and programs which will drive successful compliance and ongoing continuous improvements.

  • Develop, implement, and administer incident management and the corrective action process.

  • Develop training materials and train management and all associates relating to EHSS programs and regulatory compliance to enhance behavioral-based safety awareness and reduce the frequency of incidents.

  • Interact with all levels of the organization and maintain a strong presence in the operational areas to create and uphold a positive safety environment.

  • Develop, implement, administer, and maintain EHSS programs. Provide training and determine competency of trainees in accordance with company and regulatory requirements. Assure that all applicable recordkeeping meets the legal requirements and established policies.

  • Lead creation of site-specific EHSS goals/targets in support of corporate initiatives designed to drive EHSS culture, compliance, and results. Review EHSS trends and take direct action to effectively drive continual improvement projects and develop regular communication tools to support the EHSS culture at the location.

  • Manage completion of site and workstation-level risk assessments to identify and prioritize EHSS aspects and lead activities to mitigate or eliminate all EHSS risks.

  • Develop key EHSS operational controls are in place and ensure EHSS action items are resolved in a timely manner.

  • Advise management and staff on the practical and necessary steps to assure processes and equipment meet the applicable standards while minimizing risks to fellow associates, the public, or the environment.

  • Conduct regular inspections on PPE, environmental and physical condition of the facility, equipment, and security systems to identify opportunities for improvement.

  • Perform timely investigations of incidents, identification of root cause and rapid correction of contributing factors with documented closure.

  • Provide support in auditing of environmental activities and the management of waste materials.

  • Administer the location PPE prescription eyewear and safety shoe programs as well as planning, organizing, pricing, and overseeing EHSS special projects as deemed necessary.

  • In close cooperation with the Corporate Director, EHSS, participate in periodic EHSS assessments at other Oatey sites to share best practices and identify opportunities to further mitigate or eliminate risks.

  • Other duties as assigned.

What you'll need to be successful

  • Five (5) plus years of manufacturing/distribution experience leading the development and implementation of EHSS.

  • Experience in a manufacturing environment with hazardous chemicals.

  • Candidate will have experience with developing written policy, procedures and training material, facilitating training sessions, data collection, analysis, interpreting and reporting.

  • Experience in successfully administrating OSHA, EPA, etc. regulations, laws, standards, and practices.

  • Demonstrated ability to collect, evaluate, understand, synthesize, interpret data, report results, and make recommendations.

  • Ability to guide and direct Safety Committee projects and initiatives.

  • Demonstrated team and individual leadership skills: decision-making, goal setting, problem-solving, negotiating, analytical, team building, and organization skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and generate results in a deadline-driven, fast-paced environment.

  • In-depth emotional intelligence: behavioral maturity, demonstrated trust and integrity, high ethical standards, interpersonal competence, and the ability to prevent, reduce and resolve conflict.

  • Demonstrated ability of planning and managing multiple priorities/projects while generating results and meeting deadlines.

  • Demonstrated successful experience in being a trainer.

  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal and presentation).

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited institution in an EHSS related field or equivalent experience and /or certifications.

Qualifications that will set you apart...

  • Experience in Lean manufacturing applications and concepts such as Kaizen, Six Sigma etc.

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Hazardous Material Manager (CHMM).
